There is NO way Tony will die, let alone commit suicide. Come on, thats too melodramatic. I think the Paulie thing could be true, but I'm totally in the dark about what Tony's fate is going to be. I think he will be defeated, thats inevitable - but not die.

But it's perfect; don't you see? I agree that Tony being whacked by Leotardo's crew is too obvious, but him committing suicide brings together all the self-destructive aspects of his dysfunctional personality into one climactic event. He resents his bitter and miserable mother and despises his depressed and despairing son, but in the end he's just like them. When you think about it, suicide is the most logical fate for a character like Tony.

We don't get the Sopranos in our neck of the woods, so I can't comment about that. But I did want to speak briefly about Fredo Corleone. Fredo wasn't dim-witted; he was merely second-rate. In a world of great white sharks, Fredo was a basking shark, slower, more contented, not having been taught the finer nuances of thinking like a "Don." I never got the impression in either the films or the novel that Fredo was "dim-witted," just that he wasn't "Don" material.

That was the best way to end series. It was brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
